Kybella: Pre and Post Care Instructions

How can I prepare for my Kybella appointment?

  • You may want to avoid supplements and medications that thin the blood (NSAIDs like Advil, fish oil, turmeric, etc. unless otherwise indicated by your doctor) and alcohol for 2-3 days prior to your appointment. Never stop a medication prescribed to you without consulting the person who prescribed it.
  • Come in with a clean, make-up free face. We recommend making sure you’ve eaten before your appointment and hydrate throughout the day – it helps with the nerves and excitement!

What are my post care instructions for Kybella? What should I expect post treatment?

  • Swelling and tenderness of the treated area are immediate and can last up to 10 days to 2 weeks. Intermittent icing and Tylenol can help with swelling and discomfort.
  • The development of firmness can be expected for up to 3 to 4 weeks and can vary per patient. If you have any questions or concerns, reach out to your Injector.
  • You want to keep your face as clean as possible for 24 hours after your appointment – no makeup, dirty phone screens, used pillowcases, etc.
  • Avoid anything heat-based for 24 hours after your appointment – no working out, excessive sun exposure, infrared saunas, hot tubs, etc.
  • Kybella treatments can be repeated every 4 to 6 weeks. Most patients will need multiple sessions. Personalized treatment plan can be determined with your Injector.
  • Kybella results may be seen as early at 4 weeks and upwards of 2 to 3 months.

Bruising and swelling can be common after treatment. However, if you ever notice any area that appear pale white, pale blue, or gray compared to the surrounding skin, numbness that has not gone away after 4 hours, intense pain, a red lacey pattern traveling up the face, changes in vision, or start to break up out in what looks like pimples or acne spots around the area injected in the next 24-72 hours, please contact Infinity MedSpa and your Injector immediately.
